Development Director

Density512 is a chamber orchestra and collective of brave and open musicians who champion contemporary programming. We tell stories through imaginatively curated experiences, amplify the voices of groundbreaking and emerging artists, and cultivate interdisciplinary collaborations. Our live productions include narrative concerts, opera, ballet, live-to-film, sound installations, and more. Since 2017, Density512 has given more than 40 world premieres, served over 10,000 live attendees, and reached over 100,000 people through radio, television, and media.

HOURS & COMPENSATION

  • Job Type: PART TIME, 10 hours a week. Hours will flex depending on the time of year and concert schedule.

  • Compensation: This role is compensated at $12,000 annually. As the organization grows, this position has the potential to expand in both time commitment and salary.

POSITION SUMMARY

Density512 seeks an enterprising and relationship-driven Development Director to lead our fundraising efforts, cultivate sustainable contributed revenue, and expand our network of supporters. The Development Director will oversee the organization's fundraising pipeline, providing strategic direction and day-to-day supervision for the Development Associate. Recognizing that fundraising and public storytelling are deeply intertwined, the Development Director will work in close alignment with the Marketing and Communications Director to ensure donor appeals, institutional grants, and corporate sponsorships reflect a unified brand voice. The ideal candidate will prioritize equity, diversity, and inclusion to ensure an organizational culture that respects different perspectives and centers on inclusive philanthropy.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Fundraising Strategy & Team Supervision

  • Partner with the Managing Director and Artistic Director to establish annual and long-term goals for contributed revenue.

  • Supervise the Development Associate, providing day-to-day management to support a cohesive, creative, and inclusive work environment.

  • Oversee the grant management pipeline, guiding the Development Associate on institutional funder priorities and reviewing all grant proposals prior to submission.

  • Cultivate and nurture relationships with individual donors, potential corporate sponsors, foundations, trustees, and other funders.

Cross-Functional Communications & Marketing Collaboration

  • Co-author fundraising campaigns (e.g., individual giving, end-of-year appeals) alongside the Marketing and Communications Director to align donor messaging with overall public brand strategies.

  • Partner with the communications team to build and schedule a specialized donor communications calendar, including impact reports, donor spotlights, and exclusive newsletters.

  • Define and coordinate the delivery of corporate sponsor marketing perks with the Marketing and Communications Director to ensure all sponsor benefits are fulfilled seamlessly.

Inclusive Philanthropy & Administrative Responsibility

  • Prioritize equity, diversity, and inclusion within all development initiatives, ensuring fundraising campaigns respect multi-faceted perspectives and champion historically marginalized artistic voices.

  • Maintain ultimate accountability for records within the organization's donor management software, ensuring accurate tracking of touchpoints, donations, and grant statuses.

  • Provide regular contributed revenue updates to the Managing Director and assist in preparing development reports for the Board of Directors.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Passion for contemporary/indie music, interdisciplinary performing arts, and community-driven storytelling.

  • Experience in nonprofit fundraising, development, grant writing, or arts administration, with a proven track record of a collaborative and organized work style.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a natural ability to build relationships with donors, sponsors, and arts patrons.

  • High level of attention to detail, specifically in written narratives, data management, and grant compliance.

  • Self-motivated and highly organized, with the capacity to manage multiple deadlines efficiently within a part-time schedule.

  • Familiarity with donor database management or financial software is a plus.

  • Flexibility to attend evening and weekend events as needed to interface with donors and prospective supporters.
