Experience the Magic
of Music and Storytelling

May 17 // Divas with Panoramic Voices

Panoramic Voices and Density512 join forces for DIVAS, a bold concert that reimagines iconic pop anthems through a lush choral and orchestral lens. Rooted in a shared commitment to collaboration and new music, the two ensembles have commissioned five local composers to create original arrangements of songs by Cher, Chappell Roan, Kate Bush, Celine Dion, and Dua Lipa, while additional favorites—from Dolly Parton and Beyoncé to Prince, David Bowie, Whitney Houston, Madonna, and more—are brought to life through dynamic choral/orchestral arrangements. Together, the program celebrates the voices that have shaped generations while spotlighting Austin’s own creative talent!

DIVAS is set in the grand hall of the Bullock Texas State History Museum—that's right, y'all, air conditioning AND good parking! With a massive community chorus, chamber orchestra, and dazzling appearances by drag artist Aria Rey—who will emcee and perform right on top of the large marble map of Texas—DIVAS blends community and musical storytelling into one unforgettable night. Come, enjoy big voices, bold arrangements, and a joyful celebration of artistry in all its forms.

As the diva laments is based on an aria from my opera PARADISO, written with librettist Stephanie Fleischmann, which takes place after a human extinction event. In that aria, Alma the sentient robot tries to remember a scene from another opera, in which the diva prays to gods for deliverance in the face of an impending catastrophe. ~ Yevgeniy Sharlat

… it felt like a community making a symphony rather than a performance in front of an audience… [Density512] is changing the way I think about music.
