MISSION

Density512 is a chamber orchestra and collective of brave and open musicians who champion contemporary programming. We tell stories through imaginatively curated experiences, amplify the voices of groundbreaking and emerging artists, and cultivate interdisciplinary collaborations.

STORY

Density512 is a hotbed of radical creativity. Hailed as a“crack-new music ensemble” (Gramophone Magazine) and “musical performance incubator” (CTX Live Theatre), Density512's live productions include narrative concerts, opera, ballet, live-to-film, sound installations, and more. Density512's film and audio recordings can be found on its new music media and record label DensitySOUND and on Toccata Classics.

Since 2017 Density512 has given more than 40 world premieres, served over 10,000 live attendees, and reached over 100,000 people through radio and television performances. Density512 recently presented Power Up: The Art of Video Game Music, the immersive mythic fantasy ballet MoonFall, the Holocaust Remembrance Opera Eva and the Angel of Death, and performed at the SXSW Music Festival.

Additional collaborations include projects with the Austin Chamber Music Center, The Contemporary Austin, Blanton Museum of Art, Silent Films Out Loud, Fast Forward Austin, Thinkery, Liminal Sound Series, UMLAUF Sculpture Garden, HUB New Music, American Berserk Theatre, Red Night Fall Productions, Gilbert & Sullivan Austin, Golden Hornet, and the Austin Public Library.

VISION

Density512 seeks to:

  • Build greater appreciation and understanding for new art music in Central Texas and the United States

  • Create a community audience of adventurous arts enthusiasts who become connected to new music

  • Weave contemporary music into the fabric of cultural institutions in Central Texas

  • Establish Central Texas as a thriving new music community with a national reputation as a hotspot for large contemporary works

  • Develop the expectation that representation and equity is an expected feature of cultural institutions and musical programming

  • Provide a platform for musical visionaries, especially emerging, to create and share their work
