Conductor/Director Fellow
Reports to: Artistic Director
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES and OVERVIEW
The Conductor/Director Fellow is an apprenticeship position in conducting, curation, and artistic direction with chamber orchestra that embraces radically creativity across a wide range of musical styles at the highest professional level. The Conductor/Director Fellow participates in professional development while functioning as a member of the artistic staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Assistant/Cover Conductor: Serve as Assistant and Cover Conductor for D512 Artistic Director; this may include giving balance/musical notes, leading preparatory rehearsal, or stepping in to conduct on short notice. Conduct in performances as assigned by the Artistic Director.
Mentorship: Participate in learning and development activities including but not limited to meetings with D512 Artistic Director, staff, and collaborators.
Production & Media: Interface with Production teams including stage management, audio, lighting, and projection, to ensure all technical and staging elements support the artistic vision of a production. Support the production of high quality media in recording sessions or live event video/audio capture.
Creative Flexibility: Performers make ongoing artistic contributions to the ecosystem of Density512. This may take the form of additional creative roles, as per production needs.
Work with Density512: Conductor/Director Fellow may be considered for additional paid opportunities including but not limited to Marketing/Design, Production, Composition, Arts Admin, and more.
Communication & Mutual Respect: Conductor/Director Fellow agrees to uphold the Community Standards laid out in the handbook and treat all Density512 musicians, technical workers, and audience members with respect.
PAYMENT Payment for assistant/cover conductor work will be paid at D512 Musician’s Per-Service Rate
$100 per 2.5 hour rehearsal or concert | $120 per 3 hour rehearsal
Compensation for additional work will be considered on a case-by-base basis

Motivation Letter or Video (less than 2 minutes)
1-3 videos (maximum 12 minutes total) of your conducting in rehearsal and performance. Please include at least one contemporary work if possible.
Optional: video, audio, pdf, or web sample featuring your creativity outside of conducting.
Finalists will be invited to a Zoom interview, after which a candidate will be selected. Finalists not chosen for the fellowship may be invited to serve as Assistant Conductor on individual productions. Preference will be given to candidates located in Central Texas.
